Local brands have been moving forward with success in the smartphone market of Bangladesh. Selling of smartphones went up substantially before the launching of 3G services by the country's mobile phone operators, according to a renowned market research institution.
Cyber Media Research (CMR), a South Asia-based media services group, in a market review says that Walton, a Bangladeshi brand of cellphones, has already moved one step ahead leaving international brand Samsung behind in the local mobile phone market. Walton now holds second position, while Samsung has slipped to the third in the local cellphone market.
Meanwhile, Walton has announced special offers on its smartphones on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the Bangladesh Mobile Handset Importers Association (BMHIA), import of smartphones has gone up by 197 per cent during the second quarter (April-June) of the current fiscal year.
It predicts that sale of smartphones will go up by 10 to 12 per cent by the year-end.
S.M. Rejoan Alam, Deputy Director (Cellular Phone Division) of Walton, said the smartphones which are available at Tk 4,000 to Tk 6,000 are mainly sold in the local market. But the Walton brand of mobile phones which are available within this price range are only equipped with 3G facilities.
He said customers would have to spend more than Tk 10,000 if they want to buy other brands of smartphones having 3G facilities.
Explaining the special offers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Rejoan Alam said the price of smartphones, belonging to Walton Primo series, has been reduced on the occasion of Eid. The price of Primo X1 smartphones has been lowered at Tk 16,990 from Tk 18,690, while the price of Primo R2 smartphones has been reduced at Tk 14,990 from Tk 16,190. The price of Primo N1 series smartphones has been reduced at Tk 13,990 from Tk 14,990 and H2 handsets has been lowered at Tk 13,490 from Tk 14,490.
Regarding the facilities available at Walton smartphones, Rejoan Alam said Walton sets are most suitable sets for availing 3G facilities in Bangladesh. Walton also offers international standard after-sale services. It has a very efficient software team, who are engaged in regular upgradation and uploading of new farmware. Software will be found at Google Playstore soon where new apps will also be available.
